Herbs: cilantro


Cilantro as an herb refers to the leaves of the plant; the seeds are known as “coriander”. The leaves are often eaten raw, chopped up and added to salsas, salads and guacamole. Cilantro has a strong flavour, with citrus overtones. Interestingly, while cilantro is a popular favourite for many, a number of individuals find that cilantro tastes like “soap” to their taste buds. Even more fascinating is the belief that this “soap” interpretation has a genetic component.
